Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters.

Here’s what Roomie uses, what your roommates can see, and how your information is handled.

01. Information we use

When you sign in, Roomie receives your student name, register number, programme, institutional email and available hostel allocation. After login, you provide a 10-digit Indian mobile number, which is saved with your roommate profile and can be edited from My profile. Your institutional email is derived from your SRM NetID. Your SRM credentials are sent to the student service, which stores them encrypted to renew your session when needed.

02. What your roommates see

Other students matched to your room can see your name, hostel name and room number. Your institutional email and mobile number are available only to matched students with an active contact pass. Your register number and password are not included in roommate results. Matches use the same office ID, academic year, hostel and room.

03. Sessions and retention

Roomie keeps your session in an HTTP-only browser cookie. Student-service sessions normally last seven days. Roommate profiles use the current calendar-year allocation and expire on January 1 in India time; a new login registers the new year’s room. Signing out clears this browser’s session and requests revocation from the student service.

04. Payments

PayU processes payments. Roomie keeps order IDs, payment references, payment status, access dates and the name, email and phone used for checkout. Payment records are kept separately from annual roommate profiles so your paid access and transaction history can continue across academic years. Roomie does not store card details or UPI PINs.

05. Your choices

You can stop using Roomie at any time. To ask a question about your data, request a correction, or request removal of your roommate profile, contact the Roomie team. Do not include your password in a support message.
